Acme California Pale Ale

Picked up North Coast Brewing’s “Acme California Pale Ale” for the first time tonight and I’m totally impressed. Definately on the lighter side of the pale ale style. Light malt & breast notes. Pale copper color with a white head, with slight lacing. Very subtle but flavorful hop flavor. The amount of flavor in such light to medium bodies beer. I haven’t had a chance to look up the ABV but this could be a new session beer for me. I’m also begining to see why people speak so highly of North Coast, this is the second beer I’ve tried from them and it’s been money well spent. I think I’ll try Old Rasputin next :-)

Devil's Milk Barleywine

Devil Milk

Devil’s Milk
The Milkman Cometh.
Devil’s Milk is brewed in July and aged until its release in November. It is “dry-hopped” (hops are added after fermentation) nourishing the soul with an unholy alcohol content nearly double that of our other offerings while tempting unwitting patrons with its intense hop finish. Full bodied and fruity with a vicious texture and a great intensity of malt.

Dogfish Head Brewery Tour

Had an awesome time at Dogfish Head on Thursday, it’s definitely nice to see this place in person. Smelled like one big pot of boiling wort while we were there. Mmmm….. Got to sample 60, Punkin Ale, Pangea, & Theobroma. Had tasted them all except Theobroma which was really good, I actually bought some of that. The tour was fairly short and we didn’t get to see the bottling line since they were actually bottling beer. I’ve posted all my pics on flickr, if you click the picture below it will take you there.  I’ll add descriptions to the individual pics when I can. Lot’s of new equipment and plans for more this coming year. Was a cool place to check out (kid friendly) and everyone was really nice. No sign of Sam though, maybe next time.

Me and my little buddy at Dogfish Head.

Just a peak from the DFH tour, I’ll post more when I can get to my laptop.

Mad Elf….Is it Christmas already?

I was visiting one our local stores today and was surprised to see Troegs Mad Elf already available. So I picked some up for camping over the weekend and of course I had to try one. I actually tried this beer last year but, it was at a beer bar after the Belgian Fest at Max’s on Broadway in Baltimore and didn’t pay much attention to how good this beer really is. I’m not a big fruit beer lover, with the exception of pumpkin beer but this beer Is really enjoyable. It has a really balanced feel, with not to much sweetness with notes of honey at the end. The Cherries really come through especially after sitting out for a bit to warm up. It’s hard to believe this beer is 11% abv.  My palette is far from refined and I’m admittedly still learning the right words to describe what I like, but for you new guys (like me) you need to try this. But be careful, 11% can sneak up on you real fast! My next post will hopefully be some pics from the Dogfish Head Brewery tour.
